Athalassa National Forest Park, located southeast of Nicosia, is the city’s largest green area, stretching over 840 hectares. This picturesque park is an oasis of greenery with numerous trails covering a total of 20 kilometers. 

Visitors can enjoy walking, cycling, or even birdwatching at the park’s serene lake, which is home to swans and ducks, adding to the peaceful atmosphere.

Pedieos Linear Park: A Riverside Adventure

For those looking for an active yet relaxing experience, **Pedieos Linear Park** stretches for about 14 kilometers along the banks of the Pedieos River.

This trail is perfect for walkers and cyclists alike, offering pedestrian and bike paths surrounded by a green corridor of trees. The trail features not only natural beauty but also cultural points of interest, such as a bust of Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and a small stone chapel, making for a pleasant and interesting walk.

Challenging Trails Near Troodos Mountains

For more seasoned hikers, there are trails in the surrounding Troodos Mountains that offer both challenge and reward. The **Panagia tou Araka Trail**, starting near Stavros tou Agiasmati, takes you through an 8-kilometer route offering breathtaking views of the Morfou plain and Pentadaktylos mountain range.

This trail is unique in that it passes by two UNESCO World Heritage Sites—Panagia Araka and Stavros tou Agiasmati churches, both known for their stunning frescoes.

Another noteworthy hike is the **Kionia Picnic Site Trail**, a 7-kilometer downhill path ideal for experienced hikers, as it offers steep sections and dramatic views of the Mesaoria plain, pine forests, and endemic plants.
